Thane, 11th November 2024: In a bid to increase voter participation, authorities in Thane district have launched an “oath-taking” initiative, encouraging citizens to pledge their commitment to voting in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. The event will take place on November 14, ahead of the November 20 elections.
At 11 am on November 14, a mass “oath-taking” ceremony will occur simultaneously across all 18 assembly constituencies in Thane district. The initiative aims to involve nearly one crore residents, who will pledge to vote, viewing it as a national responsibility, according to a statement from district collector Ashok Shingare.
This initiative is part of the district’s voter awareness campaign under the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. District authorities, NGOs, educational institutions, and local organizations are collaborating to ensure the event’s success.
Manoj Shivaji Sanap, the district information officer, stated that the event will be marked by a coordinated effort across Thane, with citizens taking the oath at the same time. The pledge will emphasize the significance of voting as a national duty.
To boost participation and spread awareness, the organizers have implemented several creative measures, such as using sirens as a reminder for people to join the event. Additionally, the oath text will be shared on social media platforms to reach a wider audience.
The District Information Office has also released a digital flip book that serves as a guide for both media and the public regarding the assembly elections.
