Rajkot: A 17-year-old Class 12 student allegedly died by suicide at her home, reportedly fearing that she wouldn't get enough marks to secure admission into medical college.
The student was found hanging at her home in Oscar Residency near Ayodhya Chowk in the city on Sunday night.
A science student, the girl left behind a suicide note, police said, in which she expressed fear of being unable to score enough in the upcoming exams to pursue medical education. She took the extreme step while her parents were away. After being found in an unconscious state, she was rushed to the civil hospital where doctors declared her dead.
University police registered an accidental death.
According to police sources, the note stated, "Mom, please forgive me, I cannot fulfill your dream of becoming a doctor." The University police retained the note for investigation.
The deceased's father is a businessman. She was said to be depressed due to the stress of studies, and her worries about being unable to become a doctor led to the suicide, the sources said.
