Guwahati: Two minors died in separate road mishaps in the state on Monday. A seven-year-old child died in an accident in Golapara district's Krishnai, while another 16-year-old youth perished at Pathsala in Bajali district.
The first incident occurred on Monday morning when an e-rickshaw carrying the victim overturned on NH-17. The e-rickshaw was transporting the minor and two other passengers, including the victim's mother. "The e-rickshaw fell on a pit and due to over-speeding, the driver could not control the vehicle and it turtle on the highway. As per reports, battery of the e-rickshaw got dislocated and a boy got injured on his head, and he succumbed to the injuries," an officer from Krishnai police station said.
Following the student's death, locals staged protests on the highway, demanding action against the e-rickshaw driver and prohibition of such vehicles on the highway.
In Bajali district's Pathsala, two boys riding a bicycle collided with a four-wheeler, resulting in the death of one of them. He was 16 years old. Both youths were en route to the gym.
