Rajkot: Three jewellery traders were booked for driving a 60-year-old artisan to suicide by allegedly defaming him and his family using a theft case involving his son.
Ashwin Adesara, the artisan, consumed poison in Limbdi town of Surendranagar district on Oct 14. His son Hiren, 35, lodged a complaint against the accused after his father left a suicide note naming them for mental torture.
Hiren, who previously worked with one of the accused, confessed to stealing gold from the unit. The traders obtained a notarized statement regarding the settlement of stolen goods and struck a compromise with him. Subsequently, they allegedly used this document to threaten and socially defame him, causing severe mental distress to Ashwin.
Hiren has been living separately from his parents for four years.
