Anil Kumar Lahoti elected as SATRC Chairman

Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), has been elected as the Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC). Lahoti is currently Vice-Chairman of SATRC. He succeeds Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

TRAI announced the appointment of Lahoti while hosting the SATRC meeting. The 25th meeting of the SATRC is currently being held in New Delhi- from November 11–13. The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity is organising it, and it is being hosted by TRAI.

The SATRC meeting is held every two years, and heads of telecommunication regulatory bodies from SATRC member countries discuss and coordinate regulatory and other issues related to telecommunication and ICT.

The Council comprises Heads of the regulatory bodies of nine South Asian countries namely, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Affiliate members from these countries are also taking active participation in SATRC activities.
