Chennai: Three people, including a pedestrian, died in two separate road accidents in Minjur and Madhavaram on Saturday.
In the first incident in Minjur, a speeding motorcycle struck a 53-year-old pedestrian near Ponneri in Tiruvallur. Both the biker and the pedestrian died in the accident, while the pillion rider escaped with injuries.
Police said Azhagiri, 53, was walking home from a local market when the accident occurred. Both Azhagiri and the biker, 28-year-old Vignesh, sustained severe head injuries. Vignesh died on the spot, while Azhagiri was taken to a PHC and later shifted to Govt Stanley Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
In a second incident in Madhavaram, a 40-year-old woman named Sornalakshmi, an insurance company employee from Virugambakkam, was riding her two-wheeler with her friend Prabha, 42. Near Manjambakkam, a container lorry rammed their vehicle, causing both women to fall, after which another truck ran over them. Sornalakshmi died on the spot, while Prabha sustained fractures in both legs.
Police said they were returning from a friend's birthday party. Prabha, the wife of an IAS officer, is receiving medical treatment. A search is on for the lorry driver.
