Silchar: In a spirited call to action at the ‘Bhasha Gaurav Saptah’ celebrations organised by the Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Assam in Silchar, Assam minister Jayanta Mallabaruah urged the youth to work towards the preservation and development of languages.
Speaking at the gathering here at the Banga Bhavan, he emphasised the need to utilise modern technology, particularly AI, to promote linguistic growth and stressed that language should be a tool for unity, not division.
The event was a part of the week-long celebration of Assam’s linguistic heritage and the status of the Assamese and Bengali languages as classical languages.
Mallabaruah highlighted the recent recognition of five Indian languages, including Bengali and Assamese as classical languages by the centre, calling it a moment of pride for Assam and the nation. He said, “There is an emotional bond with our mother tongue,”, adding that we should resolve conflicts and promote respect for all languages.
Among the distinguished attendees were Bangla Sahitya Sabha state president Khagen Chandra Das and Assam Publication Council secretary general Promod Kalita. They shared the minister’s sentiment that each language deserves dignity, calling for harmony between Bengali and Assamese communities.
