Lucknow: A man ended his life following his alleged public humiliation in the Rahimabad police station area. The incident came to light on Sunday after police registered FIR. The victim, identified as Ramjivan, was involved in a verbal spat with his neighbours, including a woman who allegedly beat him up publicly. He was found hanging from a tree the next morning. The brawl took place on Nov 5, and the man committed suicide on the intervening night of Nov 6 and Nov 7.
In a complaint given by his wife, Srimati of village Mudiara, under Rahimabad Police Station, said her family and Khusiram, Shriram, and Shriram's mother, all from the same village, used to quarrel with her family every day. She said on Nov 5, at about 7pm, the accused persons beat up her and her family members, including husband, brother-in-law and abused them. When the applicant's husband called on 112, a PRV reached, and police counselled both parties and went away.
"The above-mentioned people are very powerful, and on the next day, on Nov 6, at about 6pm, Khusiram, Shriram, and their mother entered our house and beat my husband and us with shoes and slippers, abused us and threatened us. While leaving, they said they would not let Ramjivan show his face to the world and would beat him wherever and whenever he was found and also beat him at crossroads in front of the people of the locality. They further threatened that they would beat Ramjivan even in the village if he was spotted, with shoes and slippers and not let him live a respectable life. The above-mentioned people threatened me and I ran out of the house, frightened," she alleged.
She said her husband, Ramjivan, went to sleep at night. "No one knows what time he opened the door and where he went. When I woke up in the morning, I saw my husband was not at home or outside. Then I called my family members and asked about him. Everyone went out to look for him and he was found dead at around 7am. He was hanging from a tree in a garden which is in the neighbourhood of our farm, with a rope around his neck. My husband was very hurt by the previous evening's incident. I am sure my husband committed suicide under pressure of the neighbours," she alleged. She said she informed 112, and the PRV reached the spot and informed the concerned police station.
SHO, Rahimabad, Anubhav Patel, said a case under relevant sections of the BNS 108 (abetment of suicide) and other charges was registered against the accused, and the body was sent for autopsy.
