Ghaziabad: Vacant roads outside Shaheed Sthal new bus adda metro station in Ghaziabad, where flower vendors set up their market during the early hours of the day, see bikers speeding down the stretch. Locals complained that the situation poses a significant risk of accidents as the vendors occupy almost half of the road.
"This results in traffic congestion in the area, and particularly causes inconvenience for people going to office and school children who use this road early in the morning," said Manoj Singh, a regular commuter.
People visiting a temple nearby often park their vehicles along the road, adding to the congestion. Moreover, a resident of the area Sunita Sharma spoke about some incidents where flower sellers engaged in altercations with both residents and temple visitors, leading to distressing situations.
People living in the vicinity of the temple are experiencing significant distress. The residents have already complained to authorities about the worsening situation but to no avail. Despite approaching the municipal corporation on multiple occasions regarding the issue, authorities have not addressed the concerns of the residents. The flower sellers still put up their stalls on the roads, which witness substantial crowds during the evening hours.
"Inspections by law enforcement officers provide momentary respite, but their efforts to remove vendors prove futile as the sellers swiftly return to their original spots once the officers leave," said Rohit Singh, another resident.
Residents reported that vendors carry out their businesses from their trucks positioned along the street. What began as a solitary flower seller gradually expanded to include multiple merchants selling shoes and vegetables.
"We have instructed flower sellers to refrain from occupying the roadway. If that does not happen, measures will be enforced against those who fail to comply with these regulations," said a traffic police officer.
