Nagpur: Thanking voters of his Nagpur South-West constituency for their love and continued support in electing him five times as MLA, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said he was the only CM of Maharashtra who doesn't own a home in Mumbai.
Reflecting on his 25-year journey as MLA, he said he never thought of himself but only of the people all this while. "I didn't set up my own business, educational institution, medical college, or fill my home in these 25 years. I only worked for society. So far, Maharashtra has seen 20 CMs, but I am the only one who doesn't have his own home in Mumbai. Even today, my home is in Nagpur, and I am proud to be a Nagpurian," he said.
He mentioned that under Nitin Gadkari, he has been able to change the face of Nagpur since 2014. "Works like cement concrete roads, water supply, Metro network, new airport, and upgraded medical colleges with Rs500 crore assistance to each of them were done. Industrial investments in Mihan created 88,000 jobs for youths. Another 1 lakh people will get jobs with new investments," he said.
Fadnavis said Pune progressed because it became an education hub first. "Hence, we brought IIM, Symbiosis, Narsee Monjee, IIIT, and AIIMS to Nagpur. Now, all big institutions are in Nagpur. These are such institutions where employers come to offer jobs," he said.
He also mentioned that his govt allocated pattas to the poor in slums across the city, though other govts failed to do so.
Earlier, campaigning in Nagpur South, Fadnavis said sitting MLA Mohan Mate has consistently worked in the interest of the people. He recounted the Covid times when Mate organised a 100-bed Covid treatment centre for the patients.
Fadnavis shared how, under the leadership of Gadkari, all of them worked hard for the development of Nagpur. He highlighted the Indora-Dighori flyover with a budget of Rs998 crores and Ajni's 6-lane ROB with a budget of Rs450 crore, which are also the proposals of Mate.
Fadnavis highlighted how the BJP govt in the state was responsible for these developments. "People ask for votes on the basis of their caste, but Mate provided funds to ‘Varkari Bhawan' worth Rs18 crore. The first circular electric bus in the country is going to start in the Nagpur South constituency," he said.
