Kanpur: Panic prevailed when a man travelling in a car displayed a firearm near Sanatan Dharma School in the Nazirabad police station area. The police who came to know about the incident after its video spread on social media platforms on Sunday, assured to conduct a thorough investigation.
The incident had taken place on Nov 8 within the limits of Nazirabad police station when four people parked their vehicle in the road's centre while shopping which blocked traffic movement.
When other drivers of other cars requested them to shift their car, they reacted with hostility. The situation worsened as one occupant of the car pulled out a gun to intimidate those asking them to clear the path. The incident shared extensively online.
The footage reveals a red vehicle blocking traffic, causing vehicles to queue on both sides. Upon being asked to move, a passenger from the red car's rear seat emerged with a rifle, leading to a tense exchange before they left the scene.
The timing of this incident raises concerns as it happened when the model code of conduct is in force owing to a by-election in the Nazirabad region under the Sisamau assembly constituency. Assistant commissioner of police Swaroop Nagar IP Singh confirmed the identification of both the vehicle's owner and the person who displayed the weapon. "Appropriate action will be taken against those guilty," he added.
