Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Congress during a rally in Jhunjhunu, alleging that the party historically prioritised family interests over public welfare in the Shekhawati region.
Sharma said that for decades Congress leaders focused on personal and familial gains, neglecting the needs and aspirations of people. "Congress has reduced politics to a family affair in Shekhawati, laying foundation stones but doing little to follow through on real development," he said, addressing the rally held in favour of party candidate Bablu Choudhary.
Later, at another political rally in Khinvsar for party candidate Rewant Ram Danga, Sharma lambasted the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP), calling its alliances opportunistic and suggesting that the party's focus was only on promoting family members. He contrasted to it BJP's inclusive, development-oriented agenda and pledged to present a "report card" of the govt's achievements at its one-year milestone.
Addressing water scarcity issues in Shekhawati region, Sharma assured voters that BJP, at both state and national level, was committed to resolving these long-neglected concerns. He called on people to support BJP candidates in the upcoming bypolls, promising a govt dedicated to the public's welfare and a renewed focus on real development over family-driven politics.
Sharma's remarks were echoed by BJP state president Madan Rathore, who emphasised the party's commitment to combating corruption, contrasting it with what he described as Congress's self-serving approach.
Citing the Rajasthani proverb "Andha baate rewari, fir apan ko de" (implying selfish allocation of resources), Rathore claimed Congress perpetuated corruption, with numerous leaders facing investigations and court cases. He highlighted BJP's achievements in curbing corruption and prosecuting those responsible for exam paper leaks, a recurring problem during Congress's tenure.
