Agartala: IG BSF (Tripura Frontier) Patel Piyush Purushottam Das apprised Lok Sabha MP (East Tripura) Kriti Singh Debbarma that the paramilitary force has apprehended 623 Bangladesh nationals and Rohingya and at least 52 Indian touts involved in cross border crime in the state so far this year.
Debbarma said she had a detailed discussion on border management issues with Das. He assured her that BSF was fully prepared to meet the security challenges given the political turmoil in Bangladesh and was continuing joint operations in the hinterland along with other security forces. He said BSF was also cracking down on smuggling of contraband had so far seized goods and narcotics worth Rs 87 crore. Besides, it has undertaken various community support initiatives like pre-recruitment training for border youths, medical camps in remote border villages, setting up of skill development centers, and women empowerment activities, Debbarma said.
