Gorakhpur: A jawan of Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD), Ramakant Tiwari (58), was brutally beaten to death with an iron rod while on duty in Kushinagar late on Saturday night. The police have arrested the accused. According to the sources, the accused Vipin Verma is mentally unstable.
The incident took place just 100 meters from Chitoni police outpost. Ramakant Tiwari, a native of Kardah Tiwari Tola in Khadda police jurisdiction, was stationed at Chitoni Bazaar with constable Anand Tiwari and another PRD jawan. On Saturday night, Vipin Verma, a local resident, entered into a heated argument with Ramakant.
The other jawan intervened and tried to calm the situation. Verma left but he soon returned with an iron rod and started hitting Ramakant. He attacked Tiwari on his head and face and kept hitting him until he died.
The fellow PRD jawan tried to intervene but was chased off by Verma. One being informed, the police arrived and arrested Verma from the scene and seized the weapon. Circle officer (CO) Padrauna, Abhishek Pratap, confirmed that PRD jawan Ramakant Tiwari was attacked at Chitoni Bazaar by a mentally disturbed person who had been warned by the police earlier. Tiwari was rushed to the CHC from where he was referred to district hospital. He died during treatment. tnn
