Wedding's Off after Fiancee Rejects Lab Grown Ring

November 10, 24 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A groom called off the wedding after his fiancee demanded he replace the lab grown diamond in her ring with a natural gem.
He spent $2,400 on the ring, according to his post on the discussion platform Reddit.
But when his fiancee found out she said she was hurt that he'd spent so little on her and felt it "reflected her worth and the seriousness of our future marriage".
She said he should have spent at least $20,000 on the ring.
He countered that there were smarter ways to spend that kind of money - paying off a car loan, putting it toward a down payment on a house, investing, or even funding his fiancee's business idea.
He opened his heart in Reddit's TrueOffMyChest, where users share personal confessions and emotional struggles. He story is entitled "Called off my engagement with my fiancee after her reaction to the engagement ring".
He concludes: "Gentlemen: the price of a diamond ring should never dictate the quality of your marriage.
"I don't need to be married to know that. I've been a supportive and committed partner (otherwise, she wouldn't have accepted my proposal).
"Her response shocked me, and after a lot of reflection, I ultimately decided to end our relationship.
"We clearly have different values, and I realized this isn't the kind of marriage I want. It hurts — I won't lie — but a price tag on a shiny mineral shouldn't define the foundation of a partnership."
In July we reported on a bride-to-be who called off the wedding after learning that the diamond in her "$50,000 ring" was actually a lab grown.
