Rajkot: An 18-month-old girl died after she was run over by a tractor at Divrana village in Mangrol taluka of Junagadh district on Friday.
The victim's father, Mahesh Singadiya — originally from Madhya Pradesh — employed as an agricultural labourer at Balara, filed a complaint against farm owner Naran Bhalara at Shil police station, holding him responsible for the careless action that had resulted in the loss of his daughter. The charges include BNS Sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (1) (causing death by rash or negligent act) and violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Singadiya and his wife are seasonal workers who travel to Gujarat annually for agricultural work. According to the complaint, Singadiya was working in the field when he heard his wife screaming in another area. On reaching the location, he discovered that his daughter had been crushed under the tractor's wheel. Bhalara acknowledged that he hadn't noticed the child sleeping while reversing the tractor.
