Lucknow: The state govt on Friday claimed to have implemented significant measures to generate employment, empower women, and enhance essential rural infrastructure through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS).
A state govt spokesperson said that in the current financial year, the state govt successfully connected 60.17 lakh rural families with employment opportunities. The Basti district secured the top spot in Uttar Pradesh for employment generation under the MGNREGS. So far, 1,95,714 families in Basti were provided employment, against the target of 1,95,717, resulting in the creation of 79,40,929 man-days of employment. This achievement earned Basti the first position in the state, with Azamgarh and Jaunpur following in second and third place.
Commissioner, rural development, GS Priyadarshi instructed officials to improve the implementation of MGNREGS while aiming to create more employment opportunities for rural communities. The spokesperson said that the MGNREGA scheme has become a powerful tool for both employment generation and the overall development of rural areas in Uttar Pradesh.
"The scheme covers a wide range of initiatives, including employment, housing, drinking water, women empowerment, irrigation, road construction, and plantation. The main goal of these efforts is to improve the quality of life in rural areas and enhance the living standards of the people," the spokesperson said.
A key aspect of MGNREGS's success is its role in women empowerment. Women in rural Uttar Pradesh are benefiting not only from employment opportunities but also from gaining economic independence.
This year, more than one lakh families in Uttar Pradesh achieved economic stability through the MGNREGS by receiving 100 days of employment. A total of 1,00,371 families secured consistent work, providing them with the opportunity to support their livelihoods and ensure financial security.
