Coimbatore: An 18-year-old youth died while attempting to drive a tractor which fell into an under-construction 30-foot-deep well at Veeralpatti village near Pollachi on Wednesday.
R Ganapathy, son of Rajendran from Balajangamanahalli in Dharmapuri district, accompanied his uncle J Govindan's family to dig a well at a private farmland at Veeralpatti near Kottur in Pollachi.
After lunch hour, Ganapathy suddenly attempted to drive a tractor parked on the farm while others were resting around 3.15pm.
Ganapathy lost control of the vehicle, which plunged into the under-construction well. Hearing a loud noise, Govindan and other workers rushed near the well and found Ganapathy dead with injuries inside the well.
The workers alerted the Kottur police, who rushed to the spot, retrieved the body, and sent it to the Pollachi govt hospital for a postmortem. The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem on Thursday.
Kottur police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
