Agartala: At least nine Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in two different locations in Tripura over the last 24 hours for entering the country illegally. The police produced them before respective courts, seeking their custody for further investigation, a police officer said on Friday.
The BSF said six Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman and three transgender individuals, were apprehended in a joint operation by the BSF, Govt Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) from Jirania police station area on Thursday. They had entered Tripura illegally and were attempting to board a train to Guwahati.
The infiltrators, aged between 20 and 54 years, are residents of different districts in Bangladesh.
In another operation, the BSF apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including two minors, from Samrurpar in the Unakoti district while they were trying to exfiltrate to Bangladesh.
All three Bangladeshi nationals, who had earlier entered Tripura illegally, are residents of Moulavibazar in Bangladesh. According to reports, over the past three and a half months, more than 455 Bangladeshi nationals and 60 Rohingya have been arrested at different railway stations in Tripura.
