Kanpur: Gym trainer Vimal Soni, the primary suspect in the Kanpur businessman's wife's murder case, alongside the victim's husband, was questioned on Thursday.
"On being questioned about the motive behind the murder, the accused said that on the said day she was unwell following which he made her sit in the car. Then, during some conversation he got enraged and struck her resulting in her death. On being enquired how he dug her grave in such a brief period, he replied that two feet of the grave was already dug and he excavated the remaining six feet, and buried her there," said the sources.
The investigating team took Vimal Soni into 48-hour custody on Wednesday. They arrived at the district jail at 9 am and following a medical examination and paperwork, transported him to the police station by 9:30 am. A team comprising eight sub-inspectors and three inspectors conducted the interrogation with extensive questioning. A senior official of additional CP rank confirmed that Vimal faced numerous queries, generating additional questions requiring investigation. The team is gathering scientific evidence whilst continuing the interrogation. The team conducted scene reconstructions at various locations with the accused.
However, the skeletal remains discovered near the DM Officers' Club are yet to be identified. The authorities have initiated the DNA testing procedures, obtaining samples from the woman's mother at a district hospital to match with the skeleton.
Regarding Vimal Kumar's motorcycle found near a Security Cabin by the DM's residence on Wednesday, additional CP Harish Chander stated that investigations haven't linked the vehicle to the incident. "Therefore, it will not be submitted as case property. The family has been informed. After verifying the documents, the bike will be handed over to them"" said additional CP Harish Chander.
To recall, media personnel who arrived at the Officers Club discovered a punctured motorcycle, near the security cabin of DM residence on Wednesday. The security staff claimed that no knowledge of the vehicle, which RTO records confirmed belonged to murder suspect Vimal Kumar from 86/65 Shakkar Mill, Cooperganj.
