Nagpur: A 28-year-old man, unhappy about being booked for molestation, which led to him spending six months in jail, attacked a cop on Tuesday at Dus Number Puliya without any provocation. The police officer was engaged in clearing traffic to decongest Kamptee Road. The attacker, later identified as Rohit Sangole, claimed to have no grudge against the cop on duty. He was generally disappointed with the police department for the action taken against him following a molestation complaint, which prompted his unprovoked attack.
It's learnt several passers-by filmed the high drama of the fracas on the road, without offering help to the cop who was attacked by the aggressor without any reason. As the cop and Sangole locked horns on the road, traffic was thrown further out of gear, with many curious onlookers stopping their vehicles to watch the incident without offering assistance to the police department.
Head constable Anand Singh had been sent to Dus Number Puliya to decongest traffic after the control room alerted Pachpaoli police station about increasing vehicular movement and jams piling up on Kamptee Road. Singh was engaged in freeing up the congestion when Sangole surprised him by attacking from behind. Sangole's unprovoked attack left Singh clueless, but he started defending himself.
After the initial jolt, Singh managed to pin Sangole down to the ground and alerted his fellow cop to summon a vehicle from the police station. Though unable to gauge a reason behind the attack, Singh struggled hard and brought the attacker under control. Sangole was finally subdued by other cops who reached the place to help Singh. He was taken to Pachpaoli police station.
Senior inspector Baburao Raut of Pachpaoli police station said Sangole had been booked by Tehsil police some time ago and was behind bars for six months, unable to get bail. "Sangole was not even booked by Pachpaoli police station, but his wrath was against the police department in general, which prompted him to attack our constables. It seems Sangole is mentally disturbed. We have charged Sangole for acting in an unruly manner with a cop," said Raut, adding preventive actions were initiated against Sangole.
