Kanpur: Madhya Pradesh, after securing a substantial first innings lead of 43 runs, strengthened their position on the second day, accumulating 4 for 257 in their first innings in the pool league match of Cooch Behar Trophy Cricket tournament at SRMS cricket ground Barielly on Thursday.
MP had dismissed Uttar Pradesh's first innings for 114 runs and now commands a 300-run lead with six wickets in their second innings.
Host UP resumed their first innings from the overnight score of 5 for 87, with their innings concluding at 114 runs. The remaining five batsmen managed to add merely 27 runs in the morning. Overnight batsman Akshay Dubey, batting on 11, could add only four runs before falling to Ishan Chaudhary. Last batsman Ankur Sharma was the second player after Akshay to reach double figures, remaining unbeaten on 11 runs.
Ishan and Anvesh claimed four of the five remaining wickets. Rohit Singh Rajawat took maximum wickets with 5 for 33 runs.
Manal and Yashobardhan provided MP with a solid start, posting 60 runs for the first wicket. Subsequently, Yashbardhan and Ansh Bagadia constructed an 85-run partnership for the second wicket in 142 balls. Yashbardhan contributed 68 runs, embellished with 11 boundaries.
Ansh Bagadia was denied his well-deserved century by Kishan Kumar Singh, who dismantled his stumps. Ansh scored 88 runs in 139 balls, striking 13 boundaries. Captain Soham Patwardhan contributed 35 runs, whilst Rudransh Singh and Sparsh Dhankar remained unbeaten on 24 and 12 runs, respectively.
