Lucknow: Lucknow Municipal Corporation will buy 20 new skid steer loaders, also referred as robots, for cleaning drains and collecting garbage in narrow lanes that are difficult to access.
The civic body already has 10 such robots, and the fresh purchases will increase the total fleet to 32 machines. The tendering process for the first 10 machines began on Monday, and the procurement is likely to be completed within a month. They will be deployed in areas needing extra cleaning support, aiming to boost the city's overall cleanliness.
Municipal commissioner Inderjit Singh stated, "With the procurement of the first batch, each zone will have two machines, while additional units will be kept in reserve for maintenance needs. This fleet can be expanded further to strengthen our cleaning efforts." The compact size of these machines allows them to easily navigate through narrow spaces, making them ideal for efficient cleaning in areas which are hard to access.
In the executive meeting of the LMC in Oct approval was granted for the purchase of 20 robots, funded by MP Dinesh Sharma. The decision to purchase robots was taken after concerns about the city's cleaning and garbage collection systems were raised at LMC corporators' meeting.
