Varanasi: Son of a former gram pradhan and two others had a narrow escape when some unidentified miscreants opened indiscriminate fire targeting his office in Hathi Bazar under Jansa police station area on Wednesday night.
Gomati zone ADCP Akash Patel on Thursday said an FIR against unidentified miscreants has been lodged and CCTV footage of the routes used by assailants are being examined to trace them them.
He said former gram pradhan Manish Singh's son Manoj along with Dinesh Pandey and Love Dubey was sitting inside the office when some motorcycle-borne assailants fired almost five rounds targeting the office from outside and fled.
The firing led to chaos in the market as locals ran helter-skelter to save themselves while traders hurriedly pulled their shutters down.
Manoj, who is into property dealing business, then alerted the police following which ADCP Patel, ACP Rajatalab Ajay Srivastava and a forensic team reached the spot.
It was suspected that the attack was a result of rivalry over some property deal. However, Manoj denied having any disputes or enmity with anyone.
