Chikkamagaluru: Tourist access to Mullayanagiri and Bababudangiri will be restricted on Nov 9 and 10 due to the Datta Mala Abhiyana in Chikkamagaluru.
Deputy commissioner Meena Nagaraj issued the order as Sri Ram Sene's event on Nov 10 is expected to draw thousands of devotees to the hill station. Tourists are banned from visiting Mullayanagiri and Bababudangiri from 6am on Saturday to 6am on Sunday.
The devotees reach Shri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah atop by vehicles. Due to the narrow roads and potential for traffic congestion and large crowds, the entry of other tourists has been restricted, the DC stated in her order. Hence, there will be no access to Mullayanagiri, Seethalayyanagiri, Shri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah, Galikere, and Manikyadhara sites.
However, Datta Mala participants, Sri Ram Sene activists, local residents, and those who have already booked accommodations at homestays and resorts are allowed, the DC said.
According to the public works department officials, excessive rain resulted in the collapse of roads in the Kavikal Gandi area near Attigundi, reducing the road's width. Only one vehicle can pass at a time, making it dangerous for long chassis vehicles. Therefore, the movement of long chassis vehicles like trucks and buses with more than two axles has been restricted on the road from Kaimara checkpost to the Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swami Dargah.
