Bengaluru: A 25-year-old man killed his wife on the road in JB Nagar's Kullappa Colony in east Bengaluru Tuesday night. When his relatives tried to catch him, he slit his throat.
The deceased was identified as Sangeetha S, 21, and the injured husband is Nagaraj, 25, residents of Murugeshpalya. Nagaraj was a pushcart vegetable vendor and construction labourer.
Based on preliminary investigation, Nagaraj suspected his wife of infidelity. He confronted her on the road around 9.20pm when she was returning from her relative's house. He got into an argument with her, accusing her of having an extramarital affair. He pulled out a kitchen knife and threatened her. When Sangeetha started running away, crying for help, he managed to catch her by the hair and slit her throat.
When relatives tried to catch Nagaraj, he tried to end his life by slitting his throat and hand with the knife. However, he was overpowered and shifted to hospital, where he received 12 stitches. A case has been registered under BNS Section 103 (punishment for murder).
According to police, Nagaraj earlier tried to kill his mother. He also attempted to kill his wife and two-and-a-half-year-old son by tossing him in the air. Nagaraj and Sangeetha married three years ago.
