Mangaluru: "Environmental protection is our collective responsibility. It is wrong to think that protecting the environment is not our job but the govt's. It is the priority of all citizens. Many programmes were organised by the state and central governments, considering this Climate Action Plan (CAP) important,'' said Anandh K, CEO, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat.
He was speaking after launching the Nitte CAP on Thursday. He explained that the organisation is providing all kinds of cooperation for this programme, with the aim of creating environmental awareness among students.
Venkatesh S Patgara, DDPI, Dakshina Kannada, who was the guest of honour, pointed out that the most important thing to do is to create awareness about environmental protection at the school level. Students from both Mangaluru South and North departments are participating in this programme. He said that 13,000 students from 103 schools of Mangaluru North BEO are part of the programme.
Karnataka State Pollution Control Board deputy environment officer Maheshwari Singh spoke on the occasion, and explained the importance of pollution control. He explained with examples how the future can be better shaped by pollution control.
MS Moodithaya, chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), who presided over the programme, gave an explanation about the programmes undertaken by Nitte (Deemed to be University) for environmental protection. Environmental protection should be embraced as a priority from primary education to higher education.
The Nitte CAP will run for a total of five years, and this is the second year of the programme.
