Gurgaon: An 11-year-old student died while her mother suffered injuries when their scooter was hit by a truck in Inchapuri village under Pataudi sub-division on Tuesday.
The victims were en route to a Pataudi-based private school where Bhanvi was a Class V student and her mother, Sushma (32), is a teacher.
On the complaint of Sushma, police registered a case under sections 106 (causing death due to negligence) and 281 (rash driving on a public way) of the BNS against the truck driver.
Pataudi inspector Sajjan said, "Sushma resides in Sherpur area of Pataudi. While they were going to school, which is 12 kilometres away, their scooter was hit by a truck from behind in Inchhapuri village at a railway crossing."
Sushma was driving slowly. After she crossed the rail tracks, the truck driver attempted to overtake the scooter.
"While doing so, the truck hit the scooter. Sushma fell on the roadside and suffered injuries. Bhanvi fell on the road and was run over by the truck," Sajjan said. Police shifted the victims to the civil hospital, where Bhanvi was declared dead. "Sushma, who suffered a few injuries, is out of danger. The accused abandoned his vehicle and fled. We have seized the truck. A notice was issued to the truck owner to identify the accused," the inspector said.
