Coimbatore: In a post on his X handle, state BJP treasurer S R Sekhar on Tuesday questioned whether the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu and the national anthem were alien to Dravidianism and the Tamil Nadu govt, respectively.
The Tamil Thai Vaazhthu and the national anthem were not played at the two govt programmes attended by chief minister M K Stalin in Coimbatore city on Tuesday.
Pointing out that both were govt functions attended by the chief secretary, district collector and various bureaucrats, Sekhar said, "A common man like me does not understand the mystery of why these two hymns were not sung. Maybe they obtained an exemption, or astrologers advised them not to sing? Those who know should tell us or ask the chief minister."
When contacted, district administration officials said they were small events. "The chief minister barely spent 15 minutes at the IT tower inauguration function and 10 minutes at the TNHB programme in the city. He did not address the two events. Therefore, the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu and the national anthem were not sung at the two events. Some people are trying to politicise the issue for their gain," one of the officials said.
