Noida: Five people were arrested after a scuffle broke out at a residential society in Greater Noida on Monday over disagreements regarding the newly formed Residents Welfare Association (RWA).
The fight broke out amongst residents of Meenakshi Apartment in Sector Pi, and videos of the incident were widely circulated on social media. A team from the Beta 2 police station responded to calls about the altercation and arrested five people from the spot. Police also seized illegal weapons used in the fight, including a sword.
The arrested accused were identified as Wasim Khan, Younis Khan, Mohammad Faizan, and Musalin – all residents of the society – and Sameer Khan, a resident of Knowledge Park.
According to other residents who witnessed the altercation, the confrontation began when Wasim Khan complained about a noise disturbance which was affecting a sick child in his home. The situation quickly deteriorated as other residents became involved in the dispute. There were reportedly tensions among residents due to issues related to the society's recently formed RWA.
Videos of the incident, recorded by residents on their mobile phones, show several people engaged in physical altercations, with some attempting to assault others. People are also seen pulling at each other's clothing and exchanging verbal abuse.
Authorities are reviewing the RWA formation process to address underlying tensions within the community. Society members have been advised to pursue peaceful dialogue for resolving disputes. The investigating team is also collecting additional evidence and examining CCTV footage from the society premises.
A case has been registered under sections 191(2) and (3) (rioting), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the BNS and further investigation is underway, police said.
Police also assured residents that appropriate legal action will be taken against those found guilty of violence and disrupting peace in the residential area. Additional security personnel have been deployed in the vicinity to maintain law and order.
