Pitkin County authorities have issued a traffic crash alert for the city of Aspen due to deteriorating weather and hazardous road conditions.
The alert advises drivers to handle minor, non-injury collisions without law enforcement involvement, urging them to exchange names, phone numbers, registration, and insurance information directly with the other driver.
Drivers in these incidents are then required to complete a state traffic report, available at https://dmv.colorado.gov/report-accident.
In contrast, serious accidents must still be reported to local law enforcement by calling 911 or 970-920-5310.
These situations include collisions that result in vehicle disablement, injuries, fatalities, or incidents where drugs or alcohol may have played a role.
Additionally, law enforcement should be contacted if an accident involves an unattended vehicle, a hit-and-run, or damage to public property (excluding wildlife).
This alert remains active as winter conditions heighten risks on Aspen roads.
