Lucknow: Bahraich police and district administration attached property of land mafia Devendra Pratap Singh on Tuesday. Devendra is listed by the police as one of the top 50 mafia in the state.
Following orders from district magistrate Monika Rani, authorities seized the property of Devendra Pratap Singh, also known as Gabbar Singh, and his wife Sarika Singh, located in Raipur Raja, near Kedia Hospital on Jail Road. The estimated value of the seized property is approximately Rs 1.46 crore.
City magistrate Shalini Prabhakar and circle officer Ramesh Chandra Pandey seized the property in connection with a case under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986. The property was deemed illicitly acquired through criminal activities by Devendra Pratap Singh, said the police.
Bahraich superintendent of police Vrinda Shukla said that Devendra has a total 62 FIRs registered against him, mostly pertaining to forcefully acquiring properties owned by others.
"We have launched an operation to identify other such properties acquired by the accused in the district," she said.
Sources in the police said that the land mafia has properties in the name of his servants and other staff members. The revenue department has been roped in for identification of such properties. TNN
