Hyderabad: Former minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that as many as 36 students in govt residential schools have died in the last 10 months after Congress came to power.
"On an average, three students are dying every month. The govt must address this issue with utmost urgency. In just seven months, around 600 students have been affected by food-poisoning, while snakebites, rat bites and electric shocks have become common in these residential schools. Will the govt continue to ignore this," he asked.
Harish Rao came to NIMS to enquire about the health of Asifabad tribal girls residential school students Mahalakshmi, Jyothi and Shailaja, who fell sick due to food-poisoning. "While Mahalakshmi is recovering, Jyothi's condition is critical, and Shailaja is fighting for life on a ventilator," Rao said.
He said on Oct 3, 60-70 children were hospitalised due to food-poisoning at the Wankidi tribal school. Many continue to be in serious.
