Ahmedabad: In the ongoing NEET-based admissions for medical-dental and ayurveda-homeopathy programmes, a significant number of students declined their allocated seats and forfeited deposits across various disciplines.
The ayurveda allocation's third round conducted on Oct 24 saw 1,576 students being allocated seats — 633 in ayurveda and 943 in homeopathy courses. Additionally, 1,654 students modified their college preferences, with 940 in ayurveda and 714 in homeopathy streams, leading to complete seat allocation in the state after three rounds.
A total of 499 students did not confirm their ayurveda-homeopathy admissions, whilst 16 medical and 48 dental students abandoned their allocated seats, surrendering their deposits.
Sources indicate that while students typically secure admissions by paying initial fees promptly, recent substantial fee increases prompted many to forfeit their Rs 10,000 deposit rather than commit to higher admission fees. The central admission committee's policies resulted in over 500 surrendered deposits, accumulating more than Rs 50 lakh in revenue.
The vacant seats affect both state quota and All India Quota positions. To address these widespread vacancies across medical-dental and ayurveda-homeopathy programmes, the central govt extended admission deadlines and scheduled two additional allocation rounds to fill the vacant positions in both quotas.
