Ahmedabad: A 22-year-old man from the Ashok Mill area on Naroda Road lodged a police complaint against his neighbour and five others on Tuesday. In the complaint, he detailed an assault on him and his family stemming from a disagreement about bursting firecrackers during Diwali celebrations on Oct 31.
According to the FIR filed at Shaherkotda police station, the dispute began when the neighbour was setting off firecrackers near the complainant's parked motorcycle. The complainant expressed concern about potential damage to his vehicle and asked the neighbour not to burst crackers there.
The situation escalated when the complainant's brother engaged in an altercation with the neighbour over the issue. During this confrontation, the neighbour's mother got involved and sustained injuries to her legs.
Subsequently, the neighbour called his two friends and three other individuals who came armed with sticks and swords. The group allegedly assaulted the complainant and his brother and also damaged his household items.
Based on the complaint, police booked the neighbour and five others for causing hurt, unlawful assembly, rioting, verbal abuse, and property damage.
In response, the neighbour's mother filed a counter-complaint against the complainant and his brother. She alleged that during the firecracker dispute, the complainant's brother fought with her, and the complainant injured her left leg with a knife.
As she screamed in pain, other residents gathered and rushed her to the Civil Hospital in Asarwa, where a medico-legal case was filed. She later filed a complaint with the Shaherkotda police.
