Vadodara: Five days after Sabir Karigar, a 28-year-old man, was buried, his body was exhumed from a graveyard in the Umreth town of Anand district, following his family's concerns over his sudden death.
According to the family members, Sabir died by suicide on Oct 30 after which he was buried. His brother, Sajid, has now alleged that Sabir committed suicide because of pressure from moneylenders.
Sajid told mediapersons that his brother, a casual labourer, consumed poison on Oct 30 after which he passed away. "We buried him but later, through his mobile phone and recordings, we came to know that he was under debt and facing constant threats from lenders seeking repayment," he said.
He alleged that Sabir was also beaten up by goons. "We have submitted the names of all the suspects in writing to Umreth police and are waiting for necessary action from the cops," he said.
Deputy superintendent of police J N Panchal told mediapersons that the deceased's body was exhumed on Tuesday and sent for post-mortem examination at the Shree Krishna Hospital in Karamsad.
"After the deceased consumed poison, his family members shifted him to hospitals in Umreth, Nadiad, and Dakor where he was declared dead. The family did not inform the police before the burial. But since we received an application from his brother on Monday, we registered an accidental death report and are further investigating the case," said Panchal.
