Lucknow: The cabinet approved a proposal for the 'CM Child Shelter Scheme', under which new homes for destitute and law-conflicted children will be built. They will focus on the safety and holistic development of children in need of state care and protection. The cabinet authorised the CM to make amendments to the scheme as and when needed.
Under the scheme, the department of women welfare will build and operate 10 shelter homes. In the first phase, 10 new homes with a capacity of 100 each will be constructed and operated in 10 districts. These will include one State Child Home each for girls and boys, seven State Observation Homes for juveniles with Juvenile Justice Boards, and one Place of Safety Home.
The state govt will fund the construction of these homes and has estimated a cost of Rs 100 crore for the project. The operation of these homes will incur an expense of Rs 7.96 crore on the state govt following the 60:40 cost-sharing ratio between the Centre and the state under the provisions of the Mission Vatsalya Scheme. The Cabinet also approved allocation of Rs 75.58 crore for the construction of the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia State Institute of Administration and Management at Chak Ganjaria City in Lucknow.
