Kanpur: A young woman ended her life by consuming poison at her boyfriend's residence in Mahoba district following the latter's refusal to marry her. She succumbed during transit from Mahoba district hospital to Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Following the incident, the woman's brother registered a case against two siblings for abetting suicide. The police have initiated an investigation.
The deceased, identified as Mamta (21), was the daughter of Kripa Shankar Vishwakarma from Naura village in Srinagar and was pursuing her BA final at Ramshree College in Mahoba. She has been having a relationship with Golu Tamrakar, a resident of Manohar Ganj, Srinagar for the last two years. Despite mutual promises of marriage, the boyfriend later became hesitant about the commitment.
On Monday evening, when Mamta visited the boy's house to discuss marriage and faced rejection, she consumed poison outside his house.
As her health deteriorated, her family rushed her to the district hospital. Though doctors recommended transferring her to Jhansi medical college, the family opted for Chhatarpur hospital where she succumbed late in the night.
According to station officer Shivpal Singh, the deceased's body was sent for post-mortem examination. Following a complaint filed by Umesh, the victim's brother, the police registered a case against Golu Tamrakar and his brother Akash for abetting suicide. Police are currently working to zero in on the accused, who are on the run.
