Chandigarh: Haryana power and transport minister Anil Vij skipped the inauguration of 3rd Panchkula Book Fair on Sunday, even as his own department was one of the organisers of the event and chief minister Nayab Singh Saini was the one who threw it open.
The fair is being organised at Indradhanush Auditorium, Sector 5, Panchkula.
Saini also virtually inaugurated Sardar Patel libraries built in Arunai village of Kurukshetra, Bara village of Karnal, and Madana Kalan village of Jhajjar through videoconferencing. He also went around the fair and released some books.
Vij’s absence raised eyebrows as his department is one of the organisers of the event. Sources close to Vij cited violation of invitation protocol by organisers for the absence. “They just made a phone call to invite (Vij) and inform (him) about the programme, but the minister had already scheduled a meeting with workers,” said an associate of Vij. tnn
