Hyderabad: A businessman and stand-up comedian, Utsav Dixit, crashed his Porsche into a pavement and the KBR National Park fence at Banjara Hills on Friday morning. Though not under the influence of alcohol, Dixit fled the scene on foot, walking approximately 2 kilometres to his residence. He claimed that the accident occurred due to a steering wheel malfunction.
The incident took place around 5:45 am, when Dixit allegedly lost control while negotiating a curve near Basava Tarakam Cancer Hospital. After the crash, he removed the damaged number plate, placed it in the rear seat, and left the scene. Police arrested him later that evening.
While standard procedure requires inspection by a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) from the transport department, Banjara Hills police are taking additional steps by requesting Porsche to examine the vehicle.
"Since the accused claims there was a vehicle defect, we're seeking the manufacturer's opinion alongside our regular investigation," a police official stated. The investigation will proceed based on both the manufacturer's report and other findings, he added.
