Mangaluru: The waqf property issue is not new. Notices were issued even during the BJP govt's tenure, and notices have been issued at all times. However, the opposition is creating unnecessary confusion, said KPCC general secretary Padmaraj R Poojary.
In some parts of Dakshina Kannada, fake news is being spread on social media that waqf property is recorded in the RTCs, the Congress leader stated.
"Opposition leaders bring up such issues with political motives during elections, without thinking about development. However, chief minister Siddaramaiah has instructed district officials not to issue any notices to farmers regarding Waqf Board property. He has directed that the issued notices be withdrawn. Despite this, creating unnecessary confusion and protests is an attempt to confuse voters in the context of Karnataka's by-elections and the assembly elections in Maharashtra. Opposition leaders should focus on the state's development instead of creating unnecessary political motives and confusion," Poojary said.
"In 2019, it was the BJP that issued notices to clear the encroachments on waqf property. BJP initiated the eviction process, and now they are protesting against it. This is the true nature of the BJP. When Basavaraj Bommai was the chief minister, he promised to protect every inch of encroached waqf property, but now he is speaking against it. He has contradicted his own statements for political reasons. During the BJP's tenure, notices were issued in about 216 cases," he said.
"The Congress govt has implemented guarantees to empower the poor and women economically. On one hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claims the guarantee scheme will bankrupt the state, on the other hand, the BJP announces numerous guarantees in the Jharkhand election manifesto," Padmaraj said, adding that the poor are becoming stable, and the state's economy is progressing after the implementation of the guarantee schemes.
