Chandigarh: The festival season has filled the coffers of the Chandigarh administration as city registered bumper sale of vehicles during this period.
While the administration earned revenue more than double in October than September 2024, vehicle registrations too more than doubled in October than the previous month.

October saw better sales not only in comparison to September, but also against all other months this year.
In October, the Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA) and State Transport Authority (STA) combined generated revenue of Rs 40.97 crore. In September, the revenue stood at Rs 19.68 crore, which was also the lowest revenue generated in a month this year.
The registrations in October stood at 6,496, while in September the figure stood at 3,025. The second highest registration figure of the year was in July when 4,272 vehicles were registered. The lowest registrations were reported in February when 3,296 vehicles were registered.
Most of the vehicles registered during the festival season were non-transport vehicles. Only 356 new transport vehicles were registered during October, but 6,140 non-transport vehicles got registered during the same period.
Of the non-transport vehicles, the two-wheeler sales were more than cars. A total of 2,395 car were registered in October and the number of two-wheelers was 3,723.
“During this festival season, the automobile companies were offering hefty discounts and incentives for buyers. While some brands gained more than others, but sales of all major vehicle brands jumped during the festive season. It was welcome break from the otherwise tepid sales of vehicle, particularly cars,” said Japanese car brand dealer.
A UT official said, “People were booking their cars and two-wheelers even during September, but they took deliveries during the festival or got their vehicles registered in October. This also pushed registration up during the festival season. In Chandigarh the recent trend was the festival season sales very much in-line with other months, but this year, there was major difference in sale and registration numbers.”
