Chandigarh: Chandigarh residents continue to breathe ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ air.
On Monday, the average air quality index (AQI) remained poor, while its intensity worsened from Sunday.
The average AQI on Monday stood at 258. On Sunday, the average AQI was marginally lower at 223. At the Sector 22 air quality monitoring station (AQMS), the air quality worsened to very poor in early morning, afternoon and then in the evening for several periods. The maximum AQI hovered above 300.
At the Sector 25 AQMS, the air quality was relatively better, though here also the AQI cross the 300-mark (very poor air quality) on several occasions. Though, overall, the air quality remained poor around the Sector 25 station. The worst air quality was witnessed around the Sector 53 AQMS where the AQI of 350 was recorded in a 24-hour period.
