Ranchi: JMM on Monday claimed that its star campaigner Hemant Soren remained grounded for over 90 minutes after his helicopter was not allowed to take off by the Election Commission (EC) citing security concerns for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was addressing a rally 80km away in the state.
Slamming the EC and its assurances that it will provide a level-playing field to all political parties in the fray during the state assembly election, JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya claimed that the apex poll body was working to benefit only BJP and allies. He also sought President Droupadi Murmu’s intervention into the matter.
“You represent the tribal community and so does our leader. This is a distress call as we urge you to ensure the Constitutional immunity to ST candidates contesting the election,” JMM said in its address to the President.
