Varanasi: The woman complainant, who ensured the conviction of jailed gangster and former MLA Vijay Mishra in a 2023 gang rape case, suffered grave injuries when her neighbours attacked her in her house in Jaitpura area on Sunday evening. Her father too was seriously injured in the attack. The woman alleged that the neighbours had also attacked them in the past under the patronage of Mishra and his son.
Jaitpura inspector, Brijesh Mishra on Monday said that the injured woman and her father had been admitted to SPG divisional hospital. A named FIR against nine persons, including women, was lodged on charges of assault and sexual assault. While one accused woman was arrested in this connection, others were being searched for by the police team, he added.
During initial investigation by Jaitpura police, it came to light that the woman was tying a rope outside her home on Sunday evening, which led to a dispute with her neighbour Manoj Yadav. It is alleged that Manoj, his wife Sadhana Yadav, Bablu Yadav, and other family members beat her up. When her father intervened to protect her, they also attacked him. On getting information, police reached the site and rushed the two to the hospital.
The woman alleged that Manoj and his family had earlier attacked her on the diktat of former MLA Vijay Mishra and his son Vishnu Mishra. A case was filed against all of them at the Jaitpura police station in this matter. She mentioned that police were still investigating the previous case when she was targeted again.
The victim is the same woman singer who had lodged a gang rape case against Mishra with Gopiganj police station in Bhadohi district in Oct 2020, alleging that she was called to perform at his residence in 2014, where he raped her by issuing threats of dire consequences. Later, he asked his son Vishnu and nephew Vikas to drop her at her home, but the duo took her to another building and raped her there, she alleged, adding that she was raped repeatedly by Mishra in 2015.
On Nov 4, 2023, Bhadohi district's fast track court (MP-MLA) awarded 15 years of imprisonment to Mishra and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him, while Vishnu was acquitted.
In 2021, she lodged another case of criminal conspiracy, assault, attempt to murder, threatening and loot with Jaitpura police in Varanasi against Mishra and 13 other persons, including his son Vishnu, daughters, nephews and other relatives, including Vikas, by alleging that they raided her house and threatened her to withdraw the gang rape case.
Mishra is currently lodged at Agra jail with 83 criminal cases, including murder, loot, kidnapping, rape, fraud, extortion and property grabbing lodged against him.
