49 Injured While Bursting Firecrackers In Mumbai; Children Make Up Majority Of Cases

Mumbai, 4th November 2024: Over Diwali, a surge in firecracker incidents led to injuries for 49 people across Mumbai, with children comprising a significant portion of those affected.

Dr. Neelam Andrade, head of all municipal hospitals and director of the Medical Education Department in Mumbai Municipal Corporation, reported that 16 patients, including five children, received treatment at KEM Hospital. Additionally, Shiv Hospital treated 12 people, five of whom were admitted, most with burn injuries.

TNMC & Nair Hospital reported treating nine patients, with one admitted for further care. Dr. RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital attended to two cases, while JJ Hospital admitted four patients, including a child, with one patient currently being treated for an eye injury. GT Government Medical College and St. George’s Hospital each treated three firecracker-related injuries, discharging all patients post-treatment.

Most injuries involved burns on hands, feet, and faces, with eye injuries also reported among firecracker users.
