Nagpur: The winter chill is still not being felt in the region, with the IMD predicting above normal temperatures for the month of November too. The minimum temperatures of October were also on the higher side. Usually, winter season starts in mid-November, although on some occasions in the last decades, the temperature has dropped in the initial days of the month too.
As per the official record, the minimum temperature in November dropped below 10 degrees Celsius in the first week only on one occasion. However, the minimum temperatures between November 10 and 30 have been around 10 degrees to 18 degrees Celsius.
Praveen Kumar, forecasting incharge at the Regional Meteorological Centre, said the impact of changing climate and global warming has affected the winter chill in the region. "Back-to-back cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal has not allowed northerly winds to set over the Central region," he said.
Kumar said the warmer temperatures are mainly due to south-easterly and easterly winds coming over the region. These are generally warmer and increase the maximum and minimum temperatures.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be above normal in November as per the latest predictions. This time, the winter chill will also be for fewer days than normal," he said.
