Jaipur: Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari on Sunday, asked the acting mayor of Jaipur Municipal Corporation - Heritage (JMC-H), Kusum Yadav, to ensure that the city ranks in the top three in Swachh Survekshan Survey.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 337th birth anniversary of Jaipur's founder, Sawai Jai Singh II, at Statue Circle, Kumari said sanitation facilities in the Walled City should be improved as it is a main attraction for many tourists. She had earlier instructed that action be taken against those spoiling the heritage value of the Walled City.
"Sawai Jai Singh II had set up Jaipur with the best planning. He had settled traders and other people from far-off countries in the city. He was also an astronomer, so a glimpse of that aspect of his personality is seen in Jaipur's architecture and culture. The wide roads, drains, and sewerage built at the time of the establishment of Jaipur are an example even today. Now it is the responsibility of all of us to make it more beautiful. We have to make it our goal to bring Jaipur into the top three in the upcoming cleanliness rankings," said Kumari.
The deputy chief minister further said that special attention should be given to improving the conditions of the Walled City, for which the state govt has released an additional budget.
JMC-H acting mayor Kusum Yadav said Sawai Jai Singh II, with his farsighted thinking, built Jaipur in such a way that there is no shortage of anything. "The architectural marvels, various structures, and small squares here are so beautifully planned and built. Even after 297 years, the grandeur of Jaipur flies high all over the world. We are working continuously to improve cleanliness measures of Jaipur and maintain the city's heritage value," she said.
