MANGALURU: The Dakshina Kannada BJP unit staged a protest in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru on Monday over alleged transfers of farmers' land to the Waqf Board.
Protesters called on the govt to withdraw notices issued to farmers, conduct a comprehensive review of property records across Karnataka, and ensure fair treatment for affected farmers.
In a memorandum to the governor and state govt via the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner, the BJP expressed concern over rising property disputes related to Waqf assets.
The recent tensions, as seen in Kadakola, Haveri, are a reminder of how quickly situations can worsen.
The BJP criticised chief minister siddaramaiah’s govt, accusing it of prioritising minority appeasement over farmers’ welfare and engaging in vote bank politics.
They further argued that the temporary halt on registering properties as Waqf assets was a mere electoral tactic. They demanded the resignation of minister Zameer Ahmed Khan.
The BJP urged the chief minister to apologise, clarify the govt’s stance on Waqf properties, halt Waqf Adalat proceedings, and withdraw all related gazette notifications. They also pushed for the state govt’s full support for proposed amendments to the Waqf Act and to communicate their support to the union govt.
