Chennai: A 23-year-old man lost his life on Sunday morning in Manali after a water tanker collided with the bike on which he was travelling, fatally running him over. He was riding pillion, police said. The bike rider sustained injuries in the accident.
The deceased, Vinoth of Manali New Town, was travelling with his friend Kiran, 23, from Thiruvottiyur to Manali New Town, according to Red Hills Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW). As they approached the Manali expressway, their bike was struck by the tanker.
Both Vinoth and Kiran to fell on the ground in the impact, and the tanker ran over Vinoth, resulting in his death on the spot. Police, after being informed, quickly arrived at the site. Vinoth's body was sent for postmortem examination, while Kiran was admitted to a hospital for treatment. The tanker driver, Rajkumar, was charged with causing death due to negligence and taken into custody, police said.
